Joy is found
The objective of Faith and Light communities is to be close to parents and support them in their ordeal, to help them to see and to love their child just as God sees him and loves him.
- What happens at Faith and Light?
In joining a Faith and Light community, little by little parents discover loyal friends who are there to support them and help them to recognize the particular gift their child has to offer to them, their family, friends, the parish, society and finally to the whole Church.
The objective of Faith and Light communities is to be close to parents and support them in their ordeal, to help them to see and to love their child just as God sees him and loves him. Through moments of friendship shared together, during the monthly gatherings, loyal bonds of friendship are created around the person with an intellectual disability, these ties are also maintained between times of the gathering. He is the one at the heart of the community. He is the one bringing people together and calling for unity, he is the one inciting treasures of imagination and compassion from friends in the community.
- What does it mean to be happy?
A person with a mental handicap doesn’t need trappings or material goods to be happy! Because of his very weakness, he does not try to take refuge, as we do, in artificial distractions and happiness, but what he does need, more than anybody, is to permanently live his life straight from the heart in a climate of communion and affection which give him the security, joy, confidence and intuition that he can make of his life a present, which he can offer to others. He has a gift in awakening hearts and calling upon each and every person to give the very best of themselves. By doing so he makes an incalculable contribution to our common humanity : he makes us more human, if at least we accept to walk at his rhythm, see his interior beauty and welcome his gift.
- Faith and Light’s mission
The mission of Faith and Light is to allow each person, however diminished they are, to exercise their own gift, at the heart of the community and to bear witness to the gift of the poor for the whole of humanity.
So many parents can bear witness to the fact that through their ordeal, a path of new life and hope which they never could have imagined before, opened up to them. This path of love deeply affected their heart and has transformed their lives in depth. Through the discovery of Faith and Light and its vision on the place that the person with an intellectual disability should occupy, so many parents find renewed hope, consolation and joy, the strength to laugh, to sing and to dance. A loving and welcoming heart for each and every person, especially for the weaker members, wherever they come from.
Together, thanks to the community, we discover how much God himself is watching over his children with affection. We each become a gift from God for each other.
